Three new features have been added to ROIA. These are View-Through Tracking, Per Placement Commissions, and a Graph on the account homepage.
View-Through Tracking
In online advertising, there are two types of conversions. The first are click-through conversions. These happen when someone sees an ad on a publisher’s site and clicks it before being converted. The second type of conversion is a view-through conversion, which occurs when someone views a banner and converts without ever having clicked on the banner. When enabled banners will create special view-through cookie that can be used to track any resulting conversions. If a click does occur, the normal cookie will override the view-through cookie.
Ex. A person views a banner on a publisher site. They continue to browse the web without ever clicking on the tracking link. They later remember the banner and manually go to your website. If they complete a conversion, it will be tracked as a view-through referred by the appropriate publisher.
The commissions for view-through conversions are set using a multiplier, which can be set to any amount. The commissions normally earned for a conversion are multiplied by the set number for view through. So if the multiplier is set to .5 the publisher will receive half the normal rate when they refer a view-through conversion.
New columns have been added to the reports to allow advertisers to see how many conversions that they had were view-through and how many are click-through conversions. This new feature allows advertisers to see the additional benefits that result from using banners in their affiliate program.
Per Placement Commissions
A new placements menu allows the advertiser to pre-make placements that the publishers can use. This will allow them to simplify using placements for publishers since they will not have to make the placement. All they will have to login to copy the code and paste it into their website.
Another part of this new placements menu is that they allow the advertiser to set custom commissions per placement. Any commissions set on a placement will override all the other commissions for the publisher including the default, publisher, campaign, and link commissions. This can allow an advertiser to easily use this feature to buy traffic from a publisher from multiple sources at multiple rates.
Ex. Media site buy traffic to get more people on their sites. If they are buying traffic from one person who owns two different sources, they sometimes will have different rates for each source. Instead of having to create two publisher accounts or two copies of each link/banner, the advertiser can create two placements and set a different commission rate on each. Then they can assign the same links/banners to the placements and a single publisher can place them on their websites. Any traffic through the placements will earn the assigned placement commission rate instead of any other rate set.
Graphs added to ROIA
A graph of different account performance attributes has been added to the login homepage. This graph can show data about impressions, clicks, conversions, and more. It also allows two attributes to be graphed at once. This can allow you to see how changes in one attribute can affect another.
